Today we hung out with Alexander Liang, entrepreneur, fashion editor and men’s style blogger. How does he do it? You’ll have to read below to get to know the man behind KENTON Magazine & Alexanderliang.com.
What inspired you to start Alexanderliang.com?
A year and a half ago, I was posting some of the fashion pieces I was wearing and outfits of the day through the KENTON magazine social media channels. I noticed that there was an interest in what I was personally wearing, so I started a Tumblr to begin cataloging some of my looks. And as interest started picking up more, I decided to go big or go home and commit to a full style blog. I’ve also found that my blog has been a great outlet for me to share my travels.
How long Alexanderliang.com been around?
A year and a half. I would say the official start was October 2012.
Most memorable moment of Alexanderliang.com?
I think the most memorable moment for the blog would have to be the first time someone came up to me and told me they were a fan of alexanderliang.com (and not a KENTON reader). It was from that moment that I realized that I was developing a new readership base and a group different from who I was connecting with through KENTON, which reassured me that a personal style blog was a good idea.
It’s no secret that you are also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of KENTON magazine. Tell us a bit about KENTON, your experience building the site and where it is today.
There’s definitely a lot I could say about KENTON! It’s been quite a roller coaster ride, building the site and essentially the brand from the ground up. Getting it to where it is today has taken years of hard work, dedication and passion. Fortunately, I’ve been blessed with an amazing team of talented people, who have become like family. I think much of the spirit of KENTON comes from their energy and passion. I have met so many amazing people in the industry along the way as well and it’s these relationships that constantly remind me why I love doing what I do. KENTON is still very much in its early days and we’re not settling anytime soon. We recently launched a new web design and plan to continue developing the world of KENTON in the near future.
We followed your fashion week travels closely. Between New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week which was your favourite?
New York Fashion Week is always my favourite. The energy, the people, the show production–it’s incredible! However, I did really enjoy London Fashion Week this season as well, for the innovation on the runways and some seriously chic street style spotting.
If someone told you that you need to pack up your bags and move tomorrow, where would you go and why?
I would probably go for an adventure and travel to someplace far and tropical. There are so many places I want to visit in my lifetime and I think a kick in the butt to get going out the door would be a sign to get traveling, ha!
What is your must-have piece for summer and why?
Mirror-lensed sunglasses. An absolute must-have.
Style icon of the moment?
I don’t really have a style icon. I like to take inspiration from the runways and what I see on the streets.
