DIY: Mother’s Day Mason Jar

& ASC, Lifestyle.

With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend, we turned to one of our favourite craft queens, Julie Ross from The Life of a Cupcake, for an adorable DIY sure to delight.

When thinking of something cute and thoughtful to get my Mom, I always choose making something myself. And as someone who absolutely loves to have fresh flowers in the house, as does my mom, I thought why not make her something special to put her flowers in? Not only that, but who doesn’t just love mason jars? For like everything ever?

I consider myself a very crafty girl, but I often get discouraged when reading a DIY post with 25 steps that seem far fetched at best. So, today I present you the easiest, cutest, little “Do It Yourself” that even the non-crafty readers can do!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
– Paint (this colour is “Spa Blue” by Americana)
– Mason Jar (I got this one at the St.Lawrence Antique Market for $2)
– Paint Brush
– Ribbon
– Chalk Pen
– Mini Chalkboard Heart
– Fresh Flowers (I got these beauties for $4 at St.Lawrence Market)

STEPS

1. Paint the jar with a sponge brush and put one full coat of paint. Let dry for 30-45 minutes, and add another coat. Do about 4 or 5 coats total and leave to dry. Once it’s dry you could add two coats of mod podge or leave as is. I really loved the way the jar looked with just the paint in a matte finish so I kept it this way for this time! I wrapped the top with a sparkly gold ribbon and tied it at the back.

2. Add a little chalk board heart or some sort of extra added touch! I got some yellow daisies to go inside because I absolutely love these two colours together! You could do this in so many different colours (like your mom’s favourite!) I think doing a couple different colours in different size jars and a variety of types of flowers would be lovely too.

This is a great little gift to make Mom! It can go great with a new sweater, or a necklace or perhaps some new gardening tools! But, what it comes down to is that it’s the most special gift she will get because YOU made it for her.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the AMAZING Moms out there!
