Be Our Guest: Anik Lacasse of Montreal in Style

& ASC.

Anik Lacasse’s smart and edgy street style makes her one of our favourite Montreal influencers. We wanted to get to know her more, so we asked about her blog, style and city in this week’s Be Our Guest!

What inspired you to start Montreal In Style and how long has Montreal In Style been around?

I started my blog to share my view of Montreal fashion with boutiques features, street styles, designer spotlights, beauty finds. Montreal is such a great fashion city, it deserved to be on the fashion blogging map. My blog turned four this past June (wow already!).

How did you come up with the name “Montreal In Style”?

It is actually meant to be pronounced Montréal in Style, a combination of French and English, because I write in both languages, something that was important to me, in order to reach as many readers as I could.

What’s the best part about living in Montreal? Where are the best places to visit, sleep, shop and eat there when visiting?

Montreal is such an easy and fun city to live-in, full of life and there are so many great spots to try and visit. The Mile-End neighbourhood has such cute stores and cafes opening up, Unicorn boutique on Saint-Laurent is of course a favorite destination of mine. Old Montreal is a popular tourist destination, and I love Italian eatery Dolcetto & Co on Saint-Paul. Mme Lee on Ontario is a hot spot on Saturday night or Flyjin in the Old Montreal. I could go on and on, Montreal has so much to offer!

What designers, photographers, decades or trends inspire you the most?

I prefer minimalist trends, and I’ll always go for black before a flashy color. I like Alexander Wang, Celine, Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney, Rag & Bone, Philip Lim.

Most memorable moment of Montreal In Style?

Winning the P&G Beauty&Grooming Award for Best Fashion or Beauty Blog in French two years in a row.

Style icon of the moment?

I have to say Alexa Chung and Erin Wasson. They have been style icons of mine for a long time.

Top 3 favourite places to shop?

Unicorn for local designers, Zara for cool minimalist fashion and Forever 21 for those easy trendy pieces.

What are the blogs you both read on a regular basis that you would say inspire you?

Style by Kling for cool minimalist style (I’m in awe of what she has achieved), Man Repeller for a good fashion laugh, and Because I’m Addicted, for inspiration pictures.

What is the best part of covering Montreal Fashion Week? Favourite look, designer or moment?

For Spring 2014, I loved what Melissa Nepton did with her chic sporty look and wearing Laruelle for his first MFW presentation. I always love going backstage and checking out the making of the beauty and hair looks.

Beauty trend or look you’re most into right now?

I’m all about burgundy lips and dark eyeliner, either purple or navy.
