ASC’s Guide to TIFF

& ASC.

With the Toronto International Film Festival kicking off tonight, and our client Hugo Boss hosting the post-premiere party for The Riot Club on Saturday, it’s fair to say we have film fest fever. For some, it’s our eighth film festival, for others it’s our first, but we’re all equally excited for the days of parties, movies and celeb spotting to come.

Here, the tasks and reminders top of mind for us this year at TIFF.

1. Suit Up

Do like the stars of The Riot Club, including dream boats Sam Claflin, Douglas Booth and Max Irons, and dress to impress. “When in doubt, wear all black, top off with your best accessories and you’re all set,” says Account Executive Fatima Reyes. “Better yet, if you’re in a pinch for a chic dress, Ann Taylor is your girl.”

2. Pack Your Essentials

Keep your must-have essentials to a minimum, but on your body at all times. “I keep a travel bottle of Vanille 44 (Paris) from Le Labo’s City Exclusive Collection at 6 by Gee Beauty for whenever I need that last minute spritz of scent,” says Account Executive Alanna Levine.

3. Work On Your Fitness

Since Equinox is one our clients, incorporating regular fitness into our routines isn’t just part of our lives, it’s our job. Account Manager Muriel Alexander, for one, will be doing Body Sculpt at Equinox Toronto. “There is no better fuel for surviving TIFF than by adding some fitness into all of the fun.”

4. Chow Down

Staying hydrated and eating regularly are important to keep up the energy required for late night parties and screenings. So make sure you plan ahead, whether that means healthy eating all the way, or fueling up with carbs, carbs, carbs. Account Coordinator Grace Chambers recently started a cleanse of no gluten, soy, dairy or eggs (SOS!), which she’s hoping will help with a little pre-TIFF skin glow, while Director Cynthia Yan has a different diet in mind. “My routine mostly consists of listening to ‘0 to 100’ by Drake and making sure I eat something hearty like spaghetti for breakfast. So Drake and Spaghetti = powering through TIFF.”

5. Keep Your Eyes Peeled

You never know who you will run into in Toronto at this time of year, with stars like Bill Murray, Al Pacino and Jennifer Aniston all confirmed to attend. Muriel is holding out a bit of vain hope that Tilda Swinton, who missed last year’s screening of Only Lovers Left Alive, will make an appearance, whereas self-described “celeb crazed” Account Coordinators Carolyn Beaudry and Alana Lowenstein are counting on spotting one of the world’s hottest couples, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

6. Treat Yo’ Self

Last but not least, despite all the craziness, make some time for you! “I will absolutely be treating myself to a shellac manicure to ensure my nails are in tip-top shape for all our busy weeks to come. And maybe even a massage. It is my birthday, after all,” says Grace.
