What inspired you to start Born Lippy Style and how long has your blog been around?

I started my blog as a creative outlet and hobby when I first moved from Ontario to Alberta. I moved to a very small town for my boyfriend who had started a job a year prior. What I realized from the first couple days here was that there was next to zero inspiration for me fashion wise. I have always been fashion oriented and I thought it would be a fun way to pass time. I also wanted to showcase that style can exist no matter how small the town. Little did I know, blogging would become something that has gotten me through the difficult transition of moving as well as being away from my friends and family.  I’m proud to say my blog has recently passed the two year mark!

How did you come up with the name “Born Lippy Style”?

That’s quite a funny story. When I first decided to start a blog it took me forever to try and decide what I wanted to call it. I didn’t want it to be a typical name and for some reason I thought of my old email when I was younger. I called it Born Lippy because it was one of my favourite lip gloss names and my friends always thought of me when they saw it or smelt it. It also has to do with my personality; I’m a very social person and always like to express my opinions. I thought about changing it a while back but I think it sets me apart from a lot of typical blog names.

Do you have a “daytime job”? If so, where is it/what do you do?
I am currently taking some time off for myself in the job department. I worked for two years as an Office Administrator doing a bit of everything for a small company. My boyfriend and I will be moving to Calgary in January and I decided to take some time off since what I was doing wasn’t really my passion. With the time off, I will be able to go home for a little bit and have the time to look for jobs and a new place in Calgary. I’m trained in Human Resources and since I live in a small town the options for that field are very limited or nonexistent. I’m looking forward to living in a big city with more opportunities. I’m hoping for something in talent and recruitment since I love speaking to others.

What’s the best part about living in Alberta?
Alberta has been quite the transition for me from Ontario. It’s SO different in so many ways but I will have to say that Alberta has some beautiful scenery. I live really close to Jasper so it’s just nice to leave the phone behind and experience the amazing mountains. I’ve seen them countless times but they still take my breath away as cheesy as that sounds.

Top 3 favourite places to shop?

I can find something in just about everywhere but the stores I frequent most often are Gap, H&M and Zara. Oh and I’m breaking the 3 store rule, but I have quite the obsession with Joe Fresh.

If we can to visit you for a day where would you take us and why?

My town would take about 5 minutes to get through the whole thing ha-ha, but I would definitely take you guys on a road trip to Jasper. It’s about an hour and a half away from me and it’s such a cute little town with some gorgeous scenery. I’d also take you to a great restaurant I love there! Fabulous scenery and dinner… What’s not to love?

Style icon of the moment?
I absolutely love Jessica Alba’s style as well as Lily Collins. They both wear fun, fearless items and I really respect them for that. Not to mention, they are also super gorgeous. I look to them for hair and makeup inspiration as well.

What are the blogs you both read on a regular basis that inspire you?
I really love Mara from M Loves M as well as Veronica from Bittersweet Colours. I would love to go through their closets! Both ladies have great style. I’m always in awe!

Do you have a beauty resolution for 2014?
I’ve been trying to be more adventurous in the beauty department lately. I’m not much of an expert when it comes to makeup but I really want to start wearing darker lipsticks. There’s something so sexy about it for winter. I always admire those that pull it off so well.
You mentioned you’ll be in Toronto in the coming weeks – what are you most looking forward to?
I am beyond excited to be in Toronto for the next few weeks. I’m most looking forward to walking around and exploring what the city has to offer. I’ve been pretty deprived of city life so I’m taking as much of it in as I can. I have tons of friends there and it’s such a super fast train ride from home into the city for me. Restaurants, shopping, and the culture. I’m just so excited!
