This Motivation Monday, we caught up with Account Coordinator Grace Chambers to get the inside scoop on her breakfast smoothie addiction.
How did you obsession with breakfast smoothies start?
I have never been a huge breakfast person, except for my ongoing love affair with Sunday brunch. But once I started experimenting with making homemade breakfast smoothies, I was instantly hooked! I often found myself feeling really bloated after eating breakfast, and nobody wants that! Recently, I’ve been making nutrient heavy smoothies and I feel ready and energized for the day ahead. Below, I share with you one of my all-time favourite recipes, including my secret ingredients.
A note about the blender
Now, there are many people that say the Vitamix is the way to go, but unfortunately I haven’t received one for my birthday/Christmas/house warming parties….so my Magic Bullet does the trick. I opt for the larger container, which holds about two times the juices as the smaller one.
Ingredients:
1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1/4 cup Pomegranate Juice
2 tbsp Greek Yogurt (lactose-free, 0% fat)
1 cup Assorted Frozen Berries
1/4 cup Frozen Spinach
1 Ripe Banana
1-2 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Flavoured Instant Coffee
Step 1:Combine
I start by adding the frozen berries, followed by the frozen spinach (Note: I freeze the spinach so it lasts longer, and doesn’t rot in my fridge). Following the berries and spinach I add in the chopped banana (Note: I don’t freeze mine as it gives the smoothie a creamier consistency), and greek yogurt. Then add a splash of pomegranate juice and fill the remainder of the cup with almond milk (Note: Add almond until the fruit is covered). Lastly, I add cinnamon for flavouring, and my secret ingredient…..instant coffee! It gives the smoothie an extra kick to start your mornings off right.
Step 2:Blend
Blend until your desired smooth-ness! Expert tip: if I find if my blender isn’t ‘blending’, it is usually because there is not enough liquid. Add more liquid of your choice (i.e. almond milk and/or pomegranate juice) to ensure all the ingredients blend well together.
Step 3:Enjoy!
I hope this gives you some inspiration to make a breakfast smoothie. My favourite part of breakfast smoothies is that I think outside of the box by adding greens and mixing interesting flavours!
