Meet Christian, as in Christian Confidential, man of steel. Swimsuit season is in full swing so we asked this muscle man for five tips to stay in shape this summer.
1. Drink warm lemon water
Starting the day off with warm lemon water has been part of my routine for quite sometime due to it’s proven health benefits. Warm lemon water first thing in the morning helps kick-start the digestion process and also has other significant health benefits: anti-viral, anti-bacterial, immune boosting powers, liver cleanser, weight loss and digestive aid.
2. Try high intensity training
When it comes to working out, longer is not necessarily better. If you are exercising efficiently, you can get a complete and effective total body workout in under an hour. High intensity exercises not only raise your heart rate but also pushes your body by burning more calories during the workout. This will help you continue to burn them off throughout the day.
*Some of my favourites include interval running and interval rowing.
3. Switch it up
Many people underestimate the importance of mixing up workouts. Doing the same form of exercise day in and day out will cause you to plateau and you will no longer see results, which usually causes people to give up on their fitness goals. Engaging in different forms of exercise also helps prevent overuse injuries and allows you to build and develop new muscles. Adding fun and upbeat classes to your existing workout regime works wonders.
*One of my favourites is kickboxing!
4. Weight train
Training with weights, be it with free weights, kettle bells, or a weight machine can help change and define your body. If it’s a bigger physique you want, then you should try using heavy weights with short reps. Want to stay your size, tone and/or define, I suggest lighter weights with longer reps.
5. Check your nutrition
The number one thing you can do to stay in shape and have good health is to be conscious of what you put into your body. Diet plays a pivotal role in seeing results. Five small meals a day is always ideal–it will help maintain blood sugar levels and allows your body to burn calories quicker. I suggest piling up on plenty of fruits and vegetables, organic chicken, salmon or any white fish, along with easy to digest grains such as quinoa.
